
San Bernardino Beautification Day: On Saturday, September 10, 2011, participants participated in the San Bernardino City-Wide Clean Up which went very well. Several of the students were interviewed by the Inland Empire Media Group. We have also been asked to be a part of the upcoming April Clean-Up Event too.
Fire Department: October 2, 2011, WIA participants were invited and helped the fire department with their Open House. Youth will set up the event and provide refreshments and directions to the public.
Monster.Com Workshop: On October 20th, 2011 The WIA Youth Program hosted the Launch of a new series of workshop presented by Monster.com. The first of these educational work readiness workshops were held at AL Guhin Park located at 3650 Little League Drive, San Bernardino. Following the workshop, there was a BBQ and softball game. (Monsters verses Ghost Busters)
Roadtrip Nation: On October 27, 2011 The WIA youth will travel on an exciting educational career journey with RoadtripNation.org, an educational organization with curricula focused on helping young adults explore career pathways and possibilities and possibilities for their future. Participants will set interviews and video tape successful people in various career paths within San Bernardino County. Youth will engage in a series of 12 workshops that span over a 12 week period. Workshops include lessons such as: Get Out and Explore, Success, Risk and Failure, Work Versus Your Life’s Work, Self-Confidence, Self-Construction, Shed the Noise, and I Am My Manifesto. In preparation for their career, road trip youth will be taught how to cold call to get an interview, phone etiquette, interviewing skills, communication and interpersonal skills.
Mentoring Outreach Workshops: WIA Program males in our mentors program will host Mentors Outreach Day. This fun filled and educational day will consist of an array of guest speakers that will address topics that affect our young males today.Enrollment requirements are necessary.
